CDC mulls party law, sidelines EC proposal | Bangkok Post: news

(Photo by Seksan Rojjanametakul)The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) insisted Wednesday it was still considering what a political party law should include after the Election Commission (EC) proposed a draft organic law designed to make it difficult for a political party to be set up, maintained and dissolved. Following the draft's approval, the CDC has to come up with 10 organic laws, four of which are necessary for organising a general election. EC member Somchai Srisuthiyakorn said the proposed law is designed to make it difficult to set up, maintain and dissolve a political party. Under the bill, at least 15 people may seek to set up a political party with the support of 5,000 members. The EC will draft three other election-related organic laws expected to be submitted to the CDC this month.
